Marketing Campaigns

2016 Marketing Initiatives

As well as our regular marketing campaigns to promote Dorset and the visit-dorset.com website, the team have also been involved in the following marketing initiatives so far in 2016:

Bournemouth Airport
If you’re lucky enough to have travelled through Bournemouth Airport recently, you will have seen our brand new advertising displays in the Baggage Claim area. They have been specially designed using the best of Dorset’s landmarks and attractions including Durdle Door, Gold Hill, Poole Harbour, Bournemouth Beach, Corfe Castle and more. The two large lightboxes will be seen by all international and domestic inbound passengers, so not only showing visitors where they can visit, but also reminding residents of all the wonderful places to see in our county.  The lightboxes also promote the visit-dorset.com website and will be in place from early May.

Dorset Benefits from £5million South West Growth Fund
The team played an active role in this new initiative.  We ensured that Dorset benefited as much as possible from this £5 million fund to promote the whole of the South West overseas.  We successfully bid for funds to produce a brand new Dorset video which has so far been viewed by more than 100,000 people and shared nearly 2,000 times.  Read more about what the team got up to.

English Tourism Week
The Visit Dorset Tourism team took the opportunity to promote the best of Dorset during English Tourism Week 5-13th March 2016.

English Tourism Week, a national initiative organised by VisitEngland, is a week-long programme of events across England designed to kick start the 2016 season.  It offers the chance to celebrate the importance of tourism.

The tourism team joined in with the celebrations by working with local tourism businesses across West Dorset and Weymouth & Portland to offer some great deals which were promoted on a dedicated page on the popular visit-dorset.com website.  A competition to win a short break in the area was promoted via social media channels.   The West Dorset Tourist Information Centres ran a promotion giving visitors the chance to name their favourite place in Dorset in order to be entered into a prize draw to win a bottle of Dorset’s Furleigh Estate wine.
The week provided an opportunity to really showcase the fantastic tourism offer that we have and raise awareness of the value our industry brings to the Dorset economy.

Sunday Times insert with Summer Lodge

100,000, 4 page, full colour inserts promoting Dorset were included in the January issue of the Sunday Times, You Magazine.  The insert featured a competition to win a short break at the Summer Lodge Hotel.

Dorset Residents’ Week 18-24th April
The ever popular Dorset Residents’ Week returned in April 2016 to encourage local residents’ to get out and about and explore the fantastic attractions that are on their doorstep.  This initiative organised by the tourism team has now been running for over 10 years and is supported by more than 50 local businesses all offering local residents’ discounted entry to Dorset attractions.  The week aims to encourage residents to take visiting friends and family to local attractions for days out, boosting the local economy.
